Accenture's acquisition of Staufen will provide its manufacturing clients with Industry 4.0 solutions designed to unlock efficiency and optimise operations

Accenture's agreement to acquire global management consultancy Staufen ensures the expansion of its support for clients across manufacturing and the supply chain.

With more than 200 professionals based in the US, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Mexico and Brazil, the Staufen team is set to join Accenture’s supply chain and operations practice.

The deal will be especially beneficial for Accenture's clients in discrete manufacturing industries like automotive, medical equipment, industrial goods and aerospace and defence due to Staufen's extensive service portfolio of Industry 4.0 solutions.

Clients stand to unlock greater operational efficiency, while ensuring future competitiveness and greater transparency.

Why acquiring Staufen means unlocking value

Today's manufacturers face immense pressures. On top of mitigating and managing geopolitical tensions, fluctuating tariffs and ongoing supply chain disruptions, they must also keep pace with rapid technological advancement.

Accenture's acquisition of Staufen will enable its manufacturing clients to more easily achieve the above.

The company suite of solutions cover a breadth of Industry 4.0 technologies which assist in supply chain management and organisational oversight, informed by a lean philosophy of continuous improvement.

Staufen is a leader in helping manufacturers optimise product design, time to market, shopfloor processes and broader sustainability, enabling greater cost reduction, removing inefficiencies and optimising production capacity.

With an influential academy, the organisation also ensures long-term impact for its clients, fostering future leadership and talent.

One example of Staufen's proficiency was improving shopfloor management for a well-known automotive supplier, enhancing the agility and efficiency of the company's production, logistics and quality control.

Wilhelm Goschy, CEO at Staufen AG

“We optimise our client’s entire value chains, which is essential in today’s fierce competition, disruptive innovations and global challenges," explains Wilhelm Goschy, CEO at Staufen.

"We go beyond technology, working directly in our clients’ offices and factories to drive true change.

"Joining Accenture will enable us to bring our three decades of hands-on expertise to even more clients to help them navigate complex transitions with customised digital solutions.”

Matthias HĂ©gelĂ©, Accenture’s supply chain and operations lead for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland

Matthias HĂ©gelĂ©, Accenture’s supply chain and operations lead for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, adds: “Manufacturers must continuously improve their entire value chains to stay competitive.

"The acquisition of Staufen aligns with our strategy to reinvent supply chains and manufacturing for clients.

"We will combine Staufen’s proven expertise in operational excellence and value chain transformation with our capabilities in digital technologies, such as AI, generative AI, digital twins and supply chain and manufacturing software platforms, to help clients transform their core value chains, improving efficiency and productivity, supporting sustainable practices, and building resilient, autonomous systems.”

The future of manufacturing: AI-powered?

Accenture's acquisition of Staufen adds to the growing industry consensus that Industry 4.0, in particular AI, will define the future of manufacturing operations.

Praveen Rao, Global Director, Head of Manufacturing Industry at Google Cloud, recently shared his thoughts on this with us, highlighting several key AI trends the sector will likely see this year.

He spoke about how generative AI will enable manufacturers to meet the growing trend of servitisation in the industry, by enabling superior production and supply chain agility.

For manufacturers, enhancing their agility – meaning their ability to seize new opportunities and bounce back from the unexpected – is going to be one of the most vital aspects of Industry 4.0 adoption.

With Staufen's suite of solutions, Accenture will be better positioned to help manufacturers pursue this greater agility and navigate disruption.

Christina Raab, Accenture’s market unit lead for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland

“In today’s volatile landscape, organisations need solutions that address every critical aspect of their operations, from rising production costs to supply chain complexities," says Christina Raab, Accenture’s market unit lead for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

"The need for operational excellence is greater than ever, particularly in Germany, home to top manufacturers.

"Adding Staufen will help us unlock the full value of manufacturing and supply chain operations.”

Rachael Bartels, Senior Managing Director at Accenture

Rachael Bartels, Senior Managing Director at Accenture agrees, giving Staufen a warm welcome on LinkedIn: "Welcome Staufen to the Accenture family. Great to see us continuing to deepen our skills in operations and AI to help our clients deliver safe, sustainable and resilient operations."
