Dassault Systèmes: Driving UK Aerospace Innovation Forwards
Dassault Systèmes has renewed its partnership with the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) to continue advancing aerospace innovation in the UK.
The new partnership, announced earlier in July at the Farnborough International Airshow- the premier event for aerospace leaders- will focus on boosting sustainability.
The manufacturer will commit vital hands-on support, training and software to the sector, upskilling the next generation of aerospace workers and researchers and giving AMRC experts access to its rich software portfolio.
This portfolio includes Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform and DELMIA applications in addition to the manufacturer’s 40 years of experience helping aerospace manufacturers address complex modelling and design challenges.
Dassault Systèmes: An aviation leader
Dassault Systèmes is a renowned leader in the Aerospace and Defence industries, helping commercial aviation, space and aerospace suppliers digitally transform and succeed.
The company has enabled the aerospace industry to create connected virtual manufacturing twins and fully functioning models of real-world environments to drive efficiency and intelligence in manufacturing.
Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE® platform has critically enabled manufacturers in the Aerospace and Defense industries to accelerate sustainability.
Through using simulations to embrace electrification and hydrogen to shift away from carbon-heavy aviation, to optimising manufacturing space, Dassault Systèmes’s software has been transformative for the industry.
Beyond sustainability, the platform has also enabled manufacturers to avoid the financial consequences of late-stage problems in aircraft development.
By enabling designers, simulation analysts and stakeholders to work on the same simulation model simultaneously, aircraft data can be kept and tested in a single secure location.
Through keeping one, up-to-date product version that can be meticulously examined and tested, the risk of late-stage problems during manufacturing is significantly reduced, thus having a transformative impact.
The 3DEXPERIENCE® platform will continue to be transformative through the company’s partnership with AMRC.
Dassault Systèmes & AMRC: shared strategic aims
AMRC and Dassault Systèmes are longstanding partners, with the latter sharing many strategic pillars with the former.
AMRC is built on a foundation of sustainable manufacturing, industrial digitalisation, supply chain resilience and a strong, supportive culture.
With Dassault Systèmes they’ve developed a new approach to the Factory of the Future, including the DELMIA Factory of the Future Showcase at AMRC Cymru in North Wales and the Smarter Test and Airbus DAWN and Smarter Test Programmes.
Other collaborations include the million-pound AMRC North West-led FoFoRAN project, a UK government Open Networks Research and Development Fund focusing on the 5G telecoms supply chain. The fund seeks to enhance innovation and competition and build a secure and resilient communications infrastructure in the area.
“The AMRC is key to industry-led research, influencing prime and Tier 1 companies on their strategy and accelerating the use of technology in production,” says Marc Overton, Managing Director, EURONORTH, Dassault Systèmes.
“As a science-based company, research and development must be at the heart of everything we do
“Our long-standing relationship with the AMRC is designed to drive more sustainable innovation and shows our shared commitment to the future of the industry.
“We support the AMRC in its mission to continue to challenge the connected manufacturing industry: to think bigger, bolder and in a more sustainable way.”
Rab Scott, Director of Industrial Digitalisation at the University of Sheffield AMRC agrees.
“We have been working with Dassault Systèmes for more than 10 years and during that time, more players have entered the aerospace sector and manufacturing has become more distributed than ever,” he says
“Resource availability, internationalisation of supply chains, sovereign capability and sustainability are all integral to innovation in smart manufacturing.
“As a world-leading research centre, we are constantly looking to make the industry more efficient, forward-looking and resilient.
“Working with key industry players that prioritise business sustainability, such as Dassault Systèmes, enables us to deliver on our mission to achieve even better outcomes for the industry.”
