Johnson Controls, a global leader in smart, healthy, and sustainable infrastructure, has announced the appointment of Joakim Weidemanis as Chief Executive Officer, following the company’s Annual General Meeting of Shareholders.
Joakim succeeds George R. Oliver, who will continue to serve as Non-Executive Chairman of the Board until 31 July 2025, before being succeeded by Mark P. Vergnano. George will remain as an advisor to the company until 31 December 2025 to ensure a smooth leadership transition.
Joakim brings extensive experience, having spent 13 years at Danaher Corporation in executive leadership roles. Most recently, he was Executive Vice President, Diagnostics and China, responsible for a US$15bn group across eight global technology businesses. During his tenure, Danaher’s Diagnostics business saw substantial revenue growth. Joakim has also held leadership positions at Mettler Toledo and ABB and has a career spanning nearly 30 years across the US, Europe, and Asia.
The Board of Directors noted that Joakim is uniquely suited to lead Johnson Controls as a pure-play provider of comprehensive solutions for commercial buildings. His experience in scaling global technology-driven businesses, shaping product portfolios, and leveraging technology for financial success aligns well with the company’s goals.
Joakim expressed excitement about the opportunity to lead Johnson Controls, highlighting the company’s mission-driven culture and legacy of delivering market-leading solutions that enable smarter, more sustainable facilities.
