Schneider Electric: Advancing Sustainability in Construction

Energy management leader Schneider Electric has partnered with One Click LCA, a Finnish firm known for its Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) software.
This collaboration reflects Schneider Electric's commitment to reducing carbon footprints in the building industry, an area heavily reliant on its products.
The partnership will transform how environmental data is shared across nearly 50,000 of Schneider's electrical products through One Click LCA’s AI-powered sustainability platform, allowing customers to assess the sustainability potential of these products.
A key benefit is addressing a longstanding issue in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) sector, where comprehensive environmental data for mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) components has been largely unavailable.
Professionals in these fields have struggled to accurately assess the embodied carbon of their projects due to the lack of accessible data — until now.
Data-led sustainable decision-making
Through collaboration, Schneider Electric and One Click LCA open up a new realm of data-driven sustainability for architects, engineers and sustainability experts in construction.
Schneider's Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) on One Click LCA’s platform enable the inclusion of environmental impacts in decisions regarding electrification, leading to more informed life cycle assessments.
This shift is crucial in reducing carbon emissions from MEP components in construction projects.
"By sharing this extensive amount of EPDs for our electrical products on One Click LCA platform, we are making it easier for professionals in the AEC industry to select the most sustainable products," says Sorouch Kheradmand, Global Head of Sustainability Partnerships at Schneider Electric.
Setting new industry standards
Aside from practical advancements, this collaboration is set to redefine information sharing standards within the industry.
Panu Pasanen, CEO & Founder of One Click LCA, is full of praise for the initiative, noting its industry-leading nature.
"Schneider Electric is leading the way in the MEP industry by making an extensive amount of EPD data for their product available on our platform,” he says.
“Contractors and engineers need a clear understanding of the impact of all their materials to build sustainably.
“We hope that significant advancement from Schneider Electric will inspire others to share their EDP data more broadly."
Key climate challenges
The partnership's focus on lowering the carbon footprint of buildings addresses one of the most significant and difficult challenges in global sustainability efforts.
Buildings, covering construction, use and maintenance phases, are responsible for around 40% of global carbon emissions.
A large portion of these emissions comes from embodied carbon in construction materials and equipment, including electrical systems.
By providing detailed environmental data for electrical components, Schneider Electric and One Click LCA enable professionals to make accurate carbon assessments of entire buildings, a crucial service in today's regulatory landscape.
With countries worldwide tightening regulations on environmental impact reporting for built environments, easy access to reliable EPD data is now essential for construction professionals responsible for documenting carbon footprints.
As a global leader in industrial technology with a presence in over 100 countries, Schneider Electric is uniquely positioned to drive these changes.
The seamless integration of Schneider's product data into One Click LCA's platform gives AEC professionals immediate access to in-depth environmental impact insights for thousands of electrical products.
This collaboration marks a pivotal moment in the digital transformation of the construction sector, where data-driven decisions are central to sustainable building practices.
