Schneider Electric, the leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, is investing £42 million in a new manufacturing facility

Schneider Electric, a leader in energy management and automation, is investing £42 million (US$55.26m) in a new manufacturing facility in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England.

This significant expansion will create over 200 jobs to meet the growing demand for electrical equipment supporting the UK's transition to cleaner energy.

Sustainability in Scarborough

The new 16,500 sqm site is designed as a blueprint for sustainable manufacturing.

With the facility Schneider Electric is aiming for a BREEAM rating of 'Excellent' for sustainable construction.

It will be nearly triple the size of Schneider's existing Scarborough facility and will target scope 1 and two net-zero emissions when it opens in early 2025.

Of the energy produced on site, 30% will come through solar panels covering 50% of the roof.

The remaining energy consumption will be taken from  "renewable certified" grid sources.

The facility features an Intelligent Building Management System for energy-efficient operations and of Europe's first fully electric paint lines.

Kelly Becker, President at Schneider Electric, UK & Ireland, Belgium & Netherlands

“Sustainability is at the core of our purpose, culture and business," says Kelly Becker, President at Schneider Electric, UK & Ireland, Belgium & Netherlands.

"We’re proud to be investing in and developing innovative solutions which will deliver immediate and lasting decarbonisation in the UK, while bolstering the creation of local, green jobs in Yorkshire.

“The region has long been part of our operational presence in the UK, and we’re excited to expand this as part of our commitment to investing in the UK’s green economy.

"The new facility in Scarborough represents a pillar of innovation in net-zero, and one which will be an industry benchmark for the transition to sustainable, energy efficient buildings.

Economic impact

This investment builds on Schneider Electric's established presence in Yorkshire.

The company currently employs 450 people at its existing Scarborough site, and is now providing further jobs to the community.

Combined with the £7.2m (US$9.47m) Leeds upgrade, this expansion will create over 300 jobs in the coming decade.
