Fleet Evolution, one of the UK's biggest providers of salary sacrific vehicles, is celebrating record high sales of electric vehicles. Britain's EV market recorded its highest sales figures to date during Q1 of 2016; a total of 10,496 electric cars were sold between January and March this year. That equates to one every 13 minutes.

These figures make Britain second only to the Netherlands in the EU for EV sales, and thanks to new models coming out over the coming year, as well as increased investment by established car manufacturers such as BMW, Volvo, and Tesla, electric vehicles are due to only increase in popularity during the next year.

Andrew Leech, Director of Fleet Evolution, said: "We're all really impressed by the figures. We knew that electric cars were taking off, however such a significant jump in sales was somewhat unprecedented. With more and more technological advancements set to come over the next 12 months, we can all be certain that electric car sales will continue to rise, and we're all in agreement that the reports for the same timeframe next year will highlight a further increase."

Typically a popular time for purchasing a new car due to the new registration, the increase didn't come as that much of surprise. However the figures come hot on the heel that during the same time period, there were 17,000 electric cars sold in the United States - a country that boasts more than five times as many residents.

Extending the Government Plug-in Car Grant, last year the UK committed to making sure all new cars sold by 2040 are 'ultra-low emissions' vehicles.
