Zebra Technologies: AI-Enhanced Mobile for Manufacturing

Zebra Technologies has made a strategic advancement with the introduction of its EM45 Enterprise Mobile Device, designed specifically to modernise productivity and operational efficiency.
This new AI-ready mobile device is poised to transform productivity for those involved in manufacturing and warehousing, among other sectors.
The EM45 not only showcases technical versatility but is also a testament to Zebra's dedication to sustainable business operations.
Transforming Shop Floor Efficiency
In today's manufacturing environment, there is an increasing reliance on mobile technology to streamline tasks, enhance collaboration and address immediate operational challenges.
Zebra's research supports this trend, revealing that 91% of warehouse associates regard task management technologies as critical in resolving workplace difficulties, with 88% emphasising the importance of ergonomic devices.
Zebra's data further highlights that 87% of retail associates feel valued when provided with modern technology like company-issued devices.
In the healthcare sector, mobile computing devices are recognised as crucial for non-clinical roles, improving inventory accuracy and operations.
The EM45 addresses these requirements by integrating a robust Qualcomm AI-capable processor, dual operating profiles for work and personal use, and push-to-talk features for streamlined collaboration.
Additionally, its long-lasting 25-hour battery and the option to transform into a desktop workstation via Zebra's Workstation Connect set it apart.
James Poulton, Senior Vice President, Enterprise Mobile Computing at Zebra Technologies, asserts that "this new class of sleek enterprise mobile computers can be carried in your pocket as a company-owned, personally enabled device."
He adds: "The EM45 enables better real-time decision-making along with improved collaboration, orchestration and intelligence for frontline workers across multiple industries."
Adaptability across manufacturing and beyond
Tailored to various industry needs, the EM45 serves as a versatile tool across multiple sectors:
- Retail and Warehousing: The EM45 can efficiently scan products, manage stock levels and even process payments, thereby enhancing inventory management and reducing loss.
- Logistics Functions: High-resolution imaging enables proof of delivery and efficient barcode scanning, facilitating prompt and accurate shipments.
- Manufacturing Environments: With its rugged durability, the EM45 supports real-time component tracking, quality control and task management, critical for complex manufacturing processes. Additionally, the RFID reader version further enhances device utility by integrating multiple functions into one device, streamlining workflows.
Yogesh Kulkarni, Vice President, Product and Solution Strategy for Zebra Technologies, states: “For years, we’ve been embedding AI into our products, elevating outcomes for our customers and partners.”
Kulkarni adds that: “Our AI-enabled solutions are shaping the future of frontline operations by creating new ways of working. We’re proud to collaborate with our extensive partner community and customers to enhance our AI and GenAI capabilities to automate workflows, streamline processes and boost efficiency, making work easier every day.”
Commitment to environmental responsibility
Beyond product innovation, Zebra Technologies integrates sustainability into its lifecycle management.
Through its acclaimed Circular Economy Programme, the company focuses on reducing electronic waste through initiatives such as Device Buy-Back, offering Certified Refurbished Devices, and Recycling Services.
To date, these efforts have diverted over 600 metric tons of end-of-life products from landfills.
Reduction of emissions and energy initiatives
Zebra has established clear science-based targets to minimise emissions by reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50%, and Scope 3 by 15% by the year 2030.
Concrete initiatives include upgrading facilities with energy-efficient lighting and transitioning to 100% renewable energy at critical sites.
Furthermore, the company is installing EV chargers at major facilities while its top suppliers leverage renewable energy, with some attaining up to 80% renewable use.
Richard Hudson, Chief Revenue Officer at Zebra Technologies, wrote on LinkedIn: “Leveraging the right technology solutions is crucial for driving better outcomes, and automation is the key to the future.”
The EM45 Enterprise Mobile Device is not just a sophisticated tool for enhancing productivity but a reflection of Zebra Technologies’ comprehensive focus on innovation and sustainability.
By creating devices that are smarter, more efficient and eco-friendly, Zebra helps industries achieve operational excellence and uphold climate responsibilities.
