Chelsea’s new IFS partnership is more than a shirt deal – turning the club into a live testbed for Industrial AI with lessons to learn from

IFS has announced a multi-year global partnership with Chelsea Football Club that goes beyond just a logo on a shirt.

The collaboration with the Premier League club demonstrates how Industrial AI is applicable across traditional manufacturing and elite sporting environments, offering insights for data-focused organisations across multiple sectors.

The agreement positions Chelsea as an active reference implementation for IFS' AI agents and asset-focused platform, linking on-pitch performance with technologies that already support critical infrastructure, manufacturing and service operations globally.

Mark Moffat, CEO of IFS, says: "In sport – as in industry – the margins are small, the stakes are high and the right decision at the right moment is everything. That's what IFS Industrial AI delivers for the industries that power the global economy."

"Chelsea FC holds itself to that same uncompromising standard, and that shared ambition is exactly why we're proud to be their Principal Partner."

Industrial AI in professional football

Under the multi-year global partnership, Industrial AI specialist IFS has been elevated to Principal Partner status and will appear on Chelsea's front of shirt.

The collaboration aims to place "advanced AI at the heart of football performance, operational excellence and fan engagement", positioning the club as a flagship deployment for IFS.ai.

"We are incredibly proud to partner with IFS and leverage their leading edge AI software to help propel the club to even greater success," says Jason Gannon, President of Chelsea FC.

"This partnership is a statement of intent to keep leading in this field, harnessing the opportunities advanced technology brings and unlocking the power of AI to improve everything we do on and off the pitch."

Beyond the Chelsea partnership, IFS concentrates on addressing complex operational challenges for organisations involved in manufacturing, asset maintenance and service-focused operations.

In practical terms, this involves AI integration across ERP, EAM and service management, with functionality including predictive maintenance, optimised scheduling, demand planning and real-time analytics.

Chelsea now intends to apply these same capabilities across Cobham, Stamford Bridge and its global fan network.

Applications across club operations

IFS is approaching the club as a high-performance, asset-intensive organisation to implement Industrial AI across football operations.

It will deploy its software and AI agents at Chelsea to "drive precision across the club's operations, enhancing performance in almost every aspect of the club's work".

This covers training-ground workload management, squad logistics, stadium operations, commercial activations and global fan engagement.

By "harnessing the power of IFS AI to connect people, assets and intelligence in real time", Chelsea aims to enhance its competitive position on the pitch whilst improving the experience for millions of supporters worldwide.

This effectively positions the club as a prominent case study in how vertically integrated, industry-aware AI can function across multiple departments rather than remaining in isolated pilot projects.

Transformations with AI

The Chelsea-IFS collaboration illustrates how Industrial AI can be adapted from manufacturing and field service environments into a global consumer brand operating complex, continuous operations.

The partnership represents AI as a transformation tool and highlights the convergence of asset-intensive and experience-focused business models.

It also demonstrates the evolution from sponsorships as purely marketing exercises to partnerships built on shared technology strategies.

The agreement shows how Industrial AI platforms are developing into horizontal capabilities that can be extracted from traditional sectors and deployed wherever critical assets, narrow margins and intensive service requirements exist.

Orchestration engines designed to schedule field engineers or optimise production lines can be adapted to manage player availability, stadium maintenance, matchday staffing and global content delivery.

Data governance is another critical consideration.

By integrating IFS.ai at the club's foundation, Chelsea is standardising data flows across sporting, commercial and operational areas, aligning KPIs and establishing frameworks around how AI-driven recommendations influence human decision-making.

These challenges mirror those facing manufacturers, utilities and service providers as they transition from pilot programmes to production AI at scale.
