NVIDIA: Sweden Embraces AI in Manufacturing and Industry

Swedish industry giants like AstraZeneca, Ericsson, Saab, SEB and Wallenberg Investments are set to tap into new sovereign AI infrastructure spearheaded by NVIDIA.
The semiconductor leader unveiled plans last week to build new AI infrastructure with a range of businesses in Sweden, integrating its computing, networking, and software capabilities. Their aim is to transform and prepare the country’s leading industries for the age of AI by investing in joint research and upskilling opportunities.
“Investing in cutting-edge AI infrastructure is a crucial step toward accelerating the development and adoption of AI across Swedish industry,” shares Marcus Wallenberg, Chair of Wallenberg Investments.
“We believe this initiative will generate valuable spillover effects—by enabling upskilling, fostering new collaborations, and strengthening the broader national AI ecosystem.”
Exploring industry applications
AstraZeneca
The biopharmaceutical firm plans to utilise the AI framework to spearhead AI-driven drug discovery and development, employing methods such as foundation model training, multi-model inference and unique data processing capabilities.
Ericsson
Ericsson aims to enhance its operations by deploying sophisticated AI models, thereby improving performance, efficiency and customer experience. By harnessing AI even further, Ericsson hopes to enable new business models and use cases envisioned to benefit billions of users.
Saab
Saab seeks to integrate AI technologies to accelerate the development of advanced defence capabilities, aligning AI applications with its existing products and platforms.
SEB
Embracing AI for productivity enhancement, SEB plans to power novel customer offerings and sustain its future strategy. The company emphasises accessing critical infrastructure as a vital component of this ambition.
Fortifying the digital landscape
The aforementioned Swedish industry leaders, collaborating with Wallenberg Investments, are set to establish a pioneering AI system, offering secure and sovereign computing. The first phase entails deploying two NVIDIA DGX SuperPODs, leveraging NVIDIA's Grace Blackwell GB300 systems. This initiative will create Sweden's largest enterprise AI supercomputer. The supercomputer will expedite processes like training domain-specific AI models and large-scale inference.
“As electricity powered the industrial age and the Internet fuelled the digital age, AI is the engine of the next industrial revolution,” explains NVIDIA founder and CEO, Jensen Huang.
Amid global demand for AI infrastructure, NVIDIA is prioritising partnerships to elevate AI supercomputing worldwide. In Sweden, it collaborates with local consortia to drive AI innovation, aiming to build AI competence and encourage knowledge sharing across industries.
Nurturing AI development
NVIDIA plans to set up its inaugural AI Technology Center in Sweden to push the boundaries of AI research alongside industry partners. The company also commits to offering expert access and training through the Deep Learning Institute, fostering AI talent development.
Jensen adds: “Through the visionary initiative of Wallenberg Investments and Sweden’s industry leaders, the country is building its first AI infrastructure – laying the foundation for breakthroughs across science, industry, and society, and securing Sweden’s place at the forefront of the AI era.”
