DB Schenker and Ford are widely acknowledged as leaders in the logistics and automotive sectors respectively.

Now, these industry giants have teamed up to unveil a cutting-edge parts distribution centre (PDC) in Dubai South, an urban development centred on aviation, logistics and real estate.

The facility is set to revolutionise automotive supply chain efficiency and scalability in the region.

Covering 42,000 square metres, it incorporates advanced operational and technological features, with the aim of transforming the logistics landscape across the Middle East and further afield.

A recent launch event saw key figures in attendance, including HE Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation and Dubai South; Ako Djaf, VP of Contract Logistics and Supply Chain Management (SCM) for DB Schenker in the Middle East and Africa; Kay Hart, President of the International Markets Group at Ford Motor Company; and Ravi Ravichandran, President of Ford Middle East.

Advanced technology driving operational efficiency

Leveraging DB Schenker's extensive expertise, the new PDC incorporates advanced material handling equipment (MHE) and bespoke racking systems designed to optimise efficiency.

Notable innovations include very narrow aisle (VNA) systems, multi-tier mezzanines (MTM), deep selective racking (DSR) and cantilever racking (CR), all of which streamline storage and picking operations.

The facility is outfitted with 20 container docks, evenly divided between inbound and outbound operations, allowing for simultaneous processing and reducing delivery times.

Supporting these technologies, DB Schenker has implemented SAP S/4HANA warehouse management software, improving accuracy through paperless operations and barcode scanning.

A dedicated Vehicle Off Road (VOR) processing team focuses on critical parts, ensuring there are no delays in the supply of essential components.

“The new PDC enables us to create a more streamlined and efficient process that enhances parts availability, optimises inventory management and elevates customer service," says Ravi Ravichandran, President of Ford Middle East.

"By unlocking these operational efficiencies, we are delivering on our commitment to improve service and delivery times in the region. We’re thrilled to see this latest Ford project in Dubai come to fruition."

A strategic location and focus on sustainability

Situated in Dubai South’s Logistics District, the facility consolidates Ford’s regional storage and distribution operations into a centralised hub.

Catering to key markets across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and Sub-Saharan Africa, the PDC increases capacity by 20% compared to its predecessor.

The expansion not only enhances inventory management but also strengthens operational capabilities to meet the rising demand in the region.

Moreover, the centre is designed with sustainability at its core. A 400kW solar panel system, set to be installed by the end of 2025, will reduce energy consumption by 35% and cut carbon emissions by 290 tonnes annually.

In addition, responsible waste management practices, including recycling and eco-friendly disposal, further highlight the facility’s commitment to environmentally-conscious operations.

Mohsen Ahmad, CEO of the Logistics District at Dubai South

“We're pleased to welcome Ford to Dubai South with the launch of its new facility," adds Mohsen Ahmad, CEO of the Logistics District at Dubai South.

"With the expertise and capabilities of DB Schenker, we are confident that this collaboration will bolster Ford’s expansion endeavours while delivering premium services to its customers across the region.

"At Dubai South, our mission is to support the government’s economic diversification plans through the comprehensive services and solutions we offer to both local and international companies, underpinned by our state-of-the-art infrastructure."

Pioneering a new logistical future

DB Schenker’s new facility sets a benchmark for logistics innovation, blending technological advancements with sustainable practices to drive efficiencies and support global brands like Ford in delivering exceptional services.

The company’s role in implementing modern supply chain solutions underscores its leadership in the logistics sector.

Dubai South’s Logistics District further amplifies the facility’s capabilities, providing seamless access to Jebel Ali Port via a bonded logistics corridor, as well as cargo terminals at Al Maktoum International Airport.

It also houses EZDubai, a dedicated e-commerce zone, and a contract logistics zone, solidifying its status as a leading logistics hub.

Ako Djaf, VP Contract Logistics SCM & Distribution for the Middle East and Africa at DB Schenker

"At DB Schenker, we take immense pride in supporting Ford’s ambitious vision for operational excellence in the Middle East," says Ako Djaf, VP of Contract Logistics and SCM for DB Schenker in the Middle East and Africa.

"The new PDC is a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation, designed to streamline supply chain processes, enhance customer satisfaction and contribute to sustainability goals.

"By leveraging our global expertise and advanced logistics solutions, we are excited to play a pivotal role in Ford’s journey to deliver unparalleled service to its customers across the region.”
