JATCO now Producing Nissan EV Powertrains In the UK
JATCO, a global pioneer in automotive transmission systems, has officially opened a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Sunderland, UK.
The development marks a significant milestone for the North East's advanced manufacturing sector, creating up to 183 skilled jobs and solidifying the region's role as a hub for EV innovation.
Located within the prestigious International Advanced Manufacturing Park (IAMP), the new factory will produce cutting-edge 3-in-1 EV powertrains for Nissan's nearby Sunderland plant.
The facility represents a US$59.49m investment, demonstrating JATCO's commitment to advancing EV technology and supporting the UK's growing green economy.
EV manufacturing innovation: The new 3-in-1 powertrain
JATCO's Sunderland plant will focus on producing the advanced 3-in-1 powertrain, which integrates the motor, inverter and reducer into a compact, lightweight system.
This innovative solution highlights JATCO's reputation as a leader in electrification technologies, enhancing Nissan EVs' performance and efficiency.

"We are delighted to bring the manufacture of our 3-in-1 powertrain to the UK, our fourth overseas production plant alongside facilities in Mexico, China and Thailand."
Strategic location and local partnership
The Sunderland site, spanning 138,840 square feet, benefits from its strategic location at IAMP.
Its proximity to Nissan Motor Manufacturing (UK) enables streamlined supply chains, reducing costs and bolstering efficiency. National government and local councils support the facility's opening, illustrating strong public-private collaboration.
"This announcement is a massive vote of confidence in the UK economy. It boosts our thriving auto industry and secures hundreds of jobs in Sunderland."
Supporting Nissan's EV36Zero vision
The new facility aligns with Nissan's EV36Zero project, a transformative initiative centred on three new all-electric vehicles powered by renewable energy.
The project includes future electric versions of Nissan's flagship Qashqai and JUKE crossovers and a replacement for the Nissan LEAF.
