Smurfit Kappa has launched a new range of imaginative and eco-friendly toys made entirley from paper. The ekolife range provides shoppers with a sustainable alternative to non-recyclable toys.

With consumers trying to make more sustainable choices in every aspect of their lives – including what they put into their children’s toy boxes this Christmas - Smurfit Kappa explored how it could apply its expertise in design and paper to offer a solution.

The beautifully designed and durable toys include planes, cars, jigsaws, build-your-own shops and castles. The ekolife range also includes canvases that can be coloured in by their new owners to get their creative juices flowing.

Unlike most other toys, every product is made from cardboard so they are 100% recyclable, renewable and biodegradable. Morgan Webster, General Manager at ekolife, said: “The ekolife toys have been designed to encourage children to use their imaginations and enjoy unplugged, traditional play in an increasingly digital, solitary world.”

“Many parents we speak with feel guilty about buying more toys when they already have an attic or garage full of broken or unwanted plastic items that cannot be recycled.

“ekolife toys are designed to provide active and creative fun, encourage group play and at the end of their life, to go into a green bin. This means that the toys will be recycled, leaving no trace behind, to become another product in the future – truly circular.”

Owned and managed by Smurfit Kappa, ekolife creates eco-friendly toys for eco-conscious families. All toys are made from 100% recyclable, renewable and biodegradable cardboard and available for delivery throughout Europe. The ekolife website has a range of toys now available to order for Christmas.

Smurfit Kappa, a FTSE 100 company, is one of the leading providers of paper-based packaging solutions in the world, with approximately 46,000 employees in over 350 production sites across 35 countries and with revenue of €8.9 billion in 2018. Located in 23 countries in Europe, and 12 in the Americas, it is the only large-scale pan-regional player in Latin America.
