Northrop Grumman’s sustainability report details its efforts across ESG including emissions reductions, employee volunteering and broadening talent pools

Northrop Grumman’s 2024 Sustainability Report highlights the company’s dedication to environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles.

The manufacturer has set a goal to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions across its operations by 2035 with an interim target of cutting emissions by 50% by 2030.

Reducing environmental impact

Northrop Grumman’s 2024 Sustainability Report highlights the company’s dedication to environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles.

It has set a goal to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions across its operations by 2035 with an interim target of cutting emissions by 50% by 2030.

In 2024, the company reported a 13% reduction in emissions compared to its 2019 baseline while sourcing 12% of its electricity from renewable sources.

It has also established targets for water management and waste reduction.

By 2030, Northrop Grumman aims to cut absolute water withdrawals by 10%, reuse 10% and replenish 10%, with a focus on water-stressed regions.

Additionally, the company plans to reduce solid waste sent to landfill and incineration by 10% by 2030.

Social responsibility

Northrop Grumman focuses on employee well-being and community engagement.

The company’s talent strategy emphasises broadening talent pools, enhancing the employee experience and enabling career growth.

In 2024, 86% of employees reported that their experience at Northrop Grumman met or exceeded their expectations.

An impressive 82% of employees indicated they feel a sense of belonging and inclusion at Northrop Grumman.

The company also prioritises employee health and safety, with incident rates below the aerospace industry average.

Increasing community engagement

Northrop Grumman's commitment to corporate citizenship is exemplified through its community engagement initiatives.

In 2024, employees logged nearly 140,000 volunteer hours, valued at US$4.6m.

More than 2,000 employees donated more than US$1.7m through the company's ECHO Workplace Giving Program.

Northrop Grumman’s Technology for Conservation (T4C) initiatives saw significant growth in 2024, with a 14% increase in participants across 75 company sites.

New T4C projects were also introduced, including the Virtual Reality SAFE and the Project Reclaim Recycling Process.

Building sustainable supply chains

The company upholds high standards of ethics, integrity and transparency, with more than 99% of full- and part-time employees completing ethics training in 2024.

In supply chain management, Northrop Grumman surpassed the US government’s 23% small business statutory goal for the 20th consecutive year, with 35% of its total domestic spend directed to small business suppliers.
