Samsung to become NVIDIA's manufacturing partner
A Korean report states that Samsung has acquired a contract with NVIDIA.
The global graphics processor company has picked Samsung as a manufacturing partner, according to South Korea’s Chosun Biz report. It claims that NVIDIA is leaving behind the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., which it previously used for its GPUs, moving away from that company’s 16nm manufacturing process to Samsung’s 14nm process. This would allow for an even smaller next generation Pascal GPU architecture.
The report says that Samsung’s NVIDIA offering will be in production by the end of this year, but did not mention what percentage of orders it has been given. Supposedly, Samsung is currently testing the new Pascal GPU line at one of its factories.
A spokesperson for Samsung declined to comment, and NVIDIA has made no announcement thus far.
