The manufacturer strives to further enhance its sustainability through its manufacturing process, in order to meet this target and inspire other companies

Beko, the global white goods and electronics manufacturer has announced that its 1.5°C target has been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

This will strengthen the company's determination to combat climate change whilst highlighting its commitment to becoming a net zero company by 2050.

Driven by its goal of "Respecting the World, Respected Worldwide", Beko is modelling sustainability for other manufacturers.

"This milestone underscores our commitment to #sustainability and #climateaction," Beko's CEO Hakan Bulgurlu wrote on LinkedIn.

"The challenges we face as humanity are deeply connected to the climate crisis.

"Unfortunately, current global efforts fall short, and while the 1.5°C threshold outlined in the Paris Agreement has been exceeded at times, we are nearing the point of surpassing it permanently."

Beko is committed to reducing direct (Scope 1) and indirect (Scope 2) emissions by 42% by 2030, using 2022 as a baseline.

The company is advancing towards increasing its renewable energy capacity from 20.3 MWp at the end of 2023 to 90 MWp by the end of 2024.

Through Beko's energy efficiency projects, the manufacturer has saved 95,680 GJ of energy and avoided 6,983 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent emissions.

Additionally, it has achieved a 95% waste recycling rate across our production facilities, significantly reducing our environmental impact.

By incorporating 16,543 tonnes of recycled plastic into its products, Beko continues to strengthen its sustainability efforts.

These initiatives align with the company's vision of shaping a sustainable future.

Beko seeks to make a difference by integrating sustainable technologies, renewable energy, and environmentally friendly production methods into its manufacturing operations.

The manufacturer believes collective action is needed to secure a sustainable future, inviting other manufacturers to join them on this shared journey.

The approval of its SBTi targets is just one vital step, a step that Beko's CEO asserts is still vital for companies to pursue.

While some experts claim that 1.5°C is a "lost cause" and suggest revising targets, I strongly disagree with this pessimistic perspective," Hakan adds.

"Abandoning the 1.5°C goal would only encourage polluters and policymakers to delay the critical emissions reductions we urgently need. We must hold steadfast to this target—it is not a choice but an obligation."
