Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has partnered with Tata Communications to enhance its next-generation vehicles, leveraging the Tata Communications MOVE platform to provide continuous connectivity across the globe.

The partnership aims to ensure that JLR clients can stay connected even in the most remote locations, across 120 countries, while enjoying real-time vehicle location services, smarter driving experiences and an increase in software over-the-air (SOTA) updates.

Enhancing vehicle connectivity

As part of JLR's broader innovation strategy, the aforementioned collaboration aligns with the company's goal to establish universal connectivity for its vehicles.

The focus is on delivering continuously-evolving, AI-driven digital features and services, allowing customers to enjoy an enhanced and smarter driving experience.

This platform will provide seamless connectivity for JLR’s upcoming medium-sized SUVs built on the Electric Modular Architecture (EMA), ensuring non-stop access to personalised services such as media streaming no matter where the vehicle is located.

JLR's new vehicles will be able to seamlessly transition between mobile networks and operators, ensuring uninterrupted access to intelligent services. The manufacturer's fleet of connected vehicles generates 2.5 terabytes (TB) of data per day.

The platform will work to enhance this data exchange, allowing JLR engineers to access deeper insights and monitor vehicle performance in real time. This will improve the efficiency of over-the-air updates, reducing costs for both the company and its clients.

“JLR was the first luxury vehicle manufacturer to introduce dual modem, dual eSIM design for enhanced connectivity with the launch of Defender in 2020," says Mark Brogden, Director of Digital Product Platform Off-Board at JLR.

“The partnership with Tata Communications is the next step in our software-defined vehicle journey, offering highly secure and cost-effective data connectivity across 120 countries.

"Starting in 2026 with our next generation of medium-size luxury SUVs, Tata Communications MOVE aims to deliver continuous connected experiences for our clients, offering features and new software updates over-the-air to meet the expectations of our luxury client base."

Inside the platform

In the past 12 months, half a million electronic control units (ECUs) have been updated on average each month across JLR’s fleet.

The Tata Communications MOVE platform will support a more secure and efficient data exchange between JLR and clients’ vehicles, boosting vehicle maintenance and servicing capabilities.

Key features of the platform will include resilient wireless communication technologies to track vehicles even in the most demanding environments, increased and more frequent vehicle software updates and tailored connections for clients and their families to stay connected to preferred applications and vehicle features worldwide.

Simplified and accessible connectivity plans via a single provider will further enhance the customer experience.

Driving progress in automotive manufacturing

Connectivity is becoming increasingly vital in automotive manufacturing, enabling real-time data exchange and seamless integration of digital services.

As vehicles evolve into software-defined platforms, continuous connectivity drives enhanced user experiences and supports ongoing vehicle optimisation.

Tata Communications and JLR at are the forefront of this development, with JLR even exploring the integration of low orbit satellites into the company’s wider connected vehicle model.

"The automotive industry is continually innovating to meet ever-changing customer demands," adds Marco Bijvelds, Vice President and Global Head of Tata Communications MOVE. "Last year, our digital fabric enabled seamless connectivity across all JLR’s production sites globally.

"As part of our extended partnership, we're now powering JLR’s software-defined vehicle journey worldwide and enabling them to deliver advanced driving features in their cars. The insights derived from the data exchanged through our platform will enable JLR to offer personalised customer experiences, opening doors for new revenue streams.”
