JLR has launched a new concept vehicle that contains 49 more sustainable automotive components.

The project, named Cornerstone, has been co-developed with more than 40 supply chain partners to cut their combined carbon footprint by half compared to existing processes and materials. 

JLR says the project has delivered more than a tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent savings, equivalent to a passenger flying from Paris to New York, alongside multiple industry firsts.

Intrinsic, Google's AI robotics company, has provided a first look at its new modular robot workcell. 

The Intrinsic Intelligence Cell aims to provide a physical template to integrate AI capabilities into automation products. 

Designed for complex assembly, Intrinsic says it will be piloted for electronics assembly in Foxconn production facilities later this year.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) has announced 16 new awards to the Global Lighthouse Network, bringing the total to 238 sites around the world. 

Two of these factories belong to Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), recognised for sustainability and supply chain resilience. 

Magnetic levitation manufacturing technologies and AI-enabled water management are just some of the technologies behind these new awards, the WEF says.

ArcelorMittal announced a strategic collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to accelerate industrial automation across its operations through advanced cloud, AI and edge technologies.

The collaboration brings AWS cloud and AI capabilities directly to ArcelorMittal’s manufacturing processes.

According to Deloitte, 44% of energy, resources and industrial (ER&I) organisations classify AI as “highly important” to the manufacturing function in the next five years.

Finland headquartered Nokia announced an expansion to its advanced test and packaging (ATP) operations for photonic chips in Allentown, Pennsylvania. 

Nokia says the expansion is set to double its workforce in Pennsylvania, bringing the total number of staff at the site to 500 across manufacturing and research and development, while generating an estimated US$500m initial impact over the next five years. 

It forms part of the company’s plan to invest US$4bn in US manufacturing over the coming years for ‘AI-ready’ network connectivity.
