Pathfindr’s Guide to Real-Time Asset Intelligence
Real-time Asset Intelligence (RTAI) - one of many industrial IoT (IIoT) innovations to have emerged in recent years.
RTAI is a highly flexible monitoring solution that gathers a wider range of data - wider than real-time location systems (RTLS) or real-time asset monitoring (RTAM).
RTAI also offers a more in-depth analysis of data into the use of assets, storage operations, transportation, optimisation solutions, streamline opportunities and maintenance to name a few.
Whilst RTAI is a relatively new technology, key sectors including aerospace, defence, energy, automotive and manufacturing are already harnessing advanced sensor technology and wireless connectivity to analyse and optimise four core areas of their business: location, environment, activity, and performance.

The Five Things Silently Killing Your Production Efficiency
“Downtime is one of the biggest killers of production efficiency,” says Pathfindr. In a blog written by the company, Pathfindr identifies five overlooked elements that it believes will silently kill production efficiency:
- Lost items: many components make up the manufacturing environment, as such lost items are common in the process. But “a pause in one individual’s production typically causes a ripple effect that engulfs multiple team members and can completely shut down or seriously delay production.”
- Chaos in the stock room: Alongside misplaced inventory, having too little can also cause manufacturing lines to shut down. But too much inventory is also a hindrance causing excess liability and stockroom clutter. “With so many shipments going in and out each day, keeping inventory at the proper levels and not misplacing pallets can seem nearly impossible to manage.”
- Missing or out of calibration tools: “one of the fastest ways to bring your production capability to a screeching halt.” Missing or out of calibration tools can lead to safety and quality issues and possible field action???.
- Poorly shared assets: “No tool can be in two places at once…and, if you’re looking for one, it’s probably not in either place it should be,” shared tools and equipment can be a recipe for failure.
- Hidden bottlenecks: “Your plant may be experiencing huge bottlenecks that slip under the radar because they’re not as obvious to see and measure.” Despite not necessarily being easily visible, these bottlenecks will likely be felt in the product dashboard and ultimately on the balance sheet.
Pathfindr’s Guide to Real-Time Asset Intelligence
To ensure these five elements do not hinder your production, Pathfindr’s ‘Buyers Guide to Real-Time Asset Intelligence’ details the advantage of RTAI compared to RTLS and RTAM; the sectors already investing in this technology; what RTAI can help organisations achieve; the benefits of RTAI; and what to consider when choosing the right solution.
“RTAI is an extremely flexible technology that can be tailored to your needs and use cases,” says Pathfindr, it “can give you instant and real-time visibility into assets (tools, WIP, components, plant, people, space etc.) that would have previously been unmonitored or relied on manual data capture. Here are a few examples of what this can help you do, broken out across a range of use cases.”
Benefits of RTAI include:
- Production monitoring
- Asset tracking
- Global logistics
- Corrosion prevention
- Tool maintenance
- Time-on-test
- Machine monitoring
- Capacity management
- Material life tracking
