Tetra Pak has announced a new type of packaging which allows customers to turn their existing liquid dairy and juice drinks into frozen products such as ice cream, using their existing manufacturing processes.

The Tetra Fino Aseptic 100 Ultra MiM allows dairy and juice producers to house their products in small pouches at room temperature. The drinks can then be turned into frozen products in shops and/or the customer’s home.

This means that manufacturers can tap into the $72bn ice cream market without additional investment, expensive equipment, or a cold chain system.

One of China’s leading food companies, Want Want, is the first business to trial the product so far.

Wang Jin Ping, General Manager of Ice Product Business Unit, Want Want Group, said:

“We announced these new products to our distributors in early September. The response has been extremely positive because these products meet the needs of both parents and children. Parents can be reassured of the nutritional values of the product because it is their trusted Want Want flavoured milk without any preservatives, while children will be happy to enjoy these frozen treats because they are fun and tasty.”

The Tetra Fino Aseptic 100 Ultra MiM package can be produced on the A1 Tetra Pak filling machine platform. With a pre-applied opening created using Micro Injection Moulding technology, the package can be opened entirely by pulling the tab, making it simple and straightforward to open.

The new packaging will be available from 2018 in the Greater Middle East, Europe and Asia.
